About Nelson Cheang

 

Nelson is a screen composer, music arranger, and guitarist with a passion for telling stories through sound, specialised in film scoring, music arranging, and guitar recording/performing.

 

He recently earned a Master’s in Music and Audiovisual Media from the University of Liverpool, where he focused on film scoring and the relationship between music and visual storytelling.

 

Previously, Nelson scored the film Step by Step, which was nominated at the Macau International Short Film Festival. He also arranged the original soundtracks for Fortuna Trailer and Empty Sky into sheet music, which were performed live by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra Ensemble 10:10 at The Tung Auditorium.

 

As a guitarist, Nelson holds a Rockschool Grade 8 Certificate in Electric Guitar and has performed across a range of genres, giving him a flexible ear and a deep understanding of musical dynamics. He has recorded guitar parts for songwriters such as Max Chen and Kam Fai Loi, and has also worked as a guitarist for the Liverpool Hope Street Theatre.
